Absolutely love this store! They have a grand selection of hand-crafted ghost statues as well as some cute hidden art pieces that are fun to find whilst you’re looking for the perfect ghost. The staff here are lovely also, always there with a helping hand 🥰 The Dispensary they have is just as nice too! They have an amazing selection there too so if it’s just the ghosts you’re there for and the staff say it’s open, you should go there as it’s a shorter wait and not too far away! ❤️👻

A Must-Visit in York – But Go Early!

The York Ghost Merchants is a tiny little shop packed with charm – and people! There’s always a massive queue outside, and for good reason. I managed to get in, but only because I arrived around 9am. Trust me, if you want one of their famous handmade ghosts, go early!

The experience is worth the wait. All the staff are in character, dressed up in spooky Victorian-style costumes, and their sense of humor is absolutely brilliant. They really bring the place to life (or... afterlife?).

There are actually two shops in York, and both of them attract long lines. So whether you’re visiting the original on The Shambles or the second location, plan ahead and get there early. It’s a quirky, magical little stop that’s totally worth it!

Fabulous experience! Very friendly, polite, happy helpful staff. I was able to book a viewing/entry time slot to the shop through their website. Because of my disability I cannot que, the ques can be quiet long due to the store's charming popularity, so this was very welcome.
I was helped with my purchases by the most charming staff and the experience was utterly delightful! It was the rainiest day ever and this cheered me up no end! Highly recommend a visit.

My group had just one day in York and we planned it around having time to come to the shop and adopt enough spooky spirits to gift to our most cherished loved ones back home. Every detail of the experience was an absolute delight. The well-organized queue outside the shop took approximately an hour midday on a Sunday. The staff were charming and chatty, keeping the number of occupants inside the shop low so that visitors have just enough room in the small space. Look up while you’re outside the shop and you may be lucky enough to see a craftsperson at work. It’s a joy to see such an original idea so well executed!

Is there a better store in York to visit ? One believes not . Staff are amazing past and present friendly helpful and so entertaining while you queue . The store itself is a wonder full of secret spy holes and cupboards finished off with an amazing display of ghost shelves . The product it’s self what can I say just strangely perfect it’s like nothing you will have ever seen or held before . The store is located on the iconic shambles which makes waiting to enter such a delight I couldn’t recommend a store anywhere in york better . Make sure if you visit to fall into No6 it’s an experience like no other . ❤️👻👻❤️

unique and probably a must see. be advised that queues can be long as the store has limited space & only a few people are allowed inside at a time. We didn’t wait long as we were lucky in the later afternoon, definitely worth to check / come back. The queue system they have in place works well & you can opt for chats while waiting. obviously they sell tiny ghosts - they all differ in color, some in materials & others are part of a limited edition. I like that they limit the purchases you can make when it comes to special editions. you can spot so many things in that tiny store and take a picture with ghosts you buy / want to picture. as York is the city of ghosts, you might not get away without visiting. it’s definitely worth it!

The York Ghost Merchants is such a unique and charming place! The shop itself has an almost magical atmosphere, with its beautifully arranged shelves filled with handcrafted ghosts, each with its own personality. The attention to detail in the design and storytelling behind these little spirits makes the whole experience feel special.

The store is small but very popular, so there might be a bit of a queue to get in. However, it’s well worth the wait to browse and pick out a one-of-a-kind ghost to take home. It’s a perfect spot for those who love quirky souvenirs or anything with a bit of mystery. Definitely a must-visit when in York!

Waited 45 minutes in queue on a Wednesday morning. The staff kept spirits up for people in the queue with regular interaction and jokes. Staff also recommended the smalled ghost shop round the corner
Shop was quite a squeeze even with the throttled entry.
Staff were friendly and helpful inside. If you ask the staff they'll help you find the vibe of ghost that you're looking for.
There are fun Easter eggs in store, it's fun to see the secrets.
